T.O.A (Tāne Ora Alliance) is the name given to the Māori Mens programme that has been designed and developed by a group of community champions, Te Tihi o Ruahine and the Mental Health Foundation in order to assist Tāne to develop, improve and build positively on actions that support their well-being.

This in turn contributes to the wellbeing of those with whom they come into contact with within the various environs Tāne interact with – the name T.O.A is an inclusive approach in recognising the role Tāne have in relation to Wāhine and the Whānau unit (and vice versa) whether ‘Whakapapa’ whānau or ‘Kaupapa’ whānau.

The word T.O.A in Te Reo Māori has a number of meanings including: to be brave, bold, victorious, accomplished, adept, competent, skillful, capable and courageous, to win, to champion, a warrior, an expert.
